Biography

Dr. Mohit Kwatra earned a Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from Poona College of Pharmacy at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University, Pune, India. He completed his Master’s in pharmacy (Pharmacology) from the School of Pharmaceutical Education & Research of Jamia Hamdard Deemed University, New Delhi, India. He earned a Ph.D. in pharmacology and toxicology with a specialization in Neuroscience from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati, Assam, India. His thesis research explored the role of chronic restraint stress and MPTP in altering neuronal signaling pathways in Parkinson’s disease, with a focus on pharmacological interventions using natural compounds. He has received several awards during his Ph.D. including fellowship award from Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers (Govt. of India); Trainee Professional Development Award (Society for Neuroscience, 2021: Fully virtual); Best Publication award in the SRF category and Best performance award at NIPER along with several organization’s (DST/DBT/ICMR/IBRO/ISN) international travel awards to present his research in ECNP (2016), SfN (2017), ISN-ESN (2017), WPC (2019). He joined the lab of Dr. Patrik Brundin as a postdoctoral fellow in 2021.

 

Current research focus

Dr. Mohit Kwatra is currently focusing on understanding inflammatory triggers and their influence on olfactory system/pathways in an α-synuceinopathy model of Parkinson’s disease.
