Nutritional stress signaling through chromatin

Our laboratory has extensive experience in the purification and analysis of protein complexes that modify chromatin for gene expression. This includes both affinity purification techniques and conventional chromatography. Examples of complexes first purified in this laboratory include the SAGA complex from yeast the Tip60 complex from Drosophila and the Sin3 complex from mammalian cells. We have extensively analyzed the mammalian Sin3 deacetylase complexes in collaboration with the Washburn laboratory. We have collaborated extensively with the Washburn laboratory, most recently in dissecting the protein interaction network in the Swi/Snf chromatin remodeling complex. Our laboratory has a long tradition of predoctoral and postdoctoral training. 14 graduate students have trained in our laboratory, 13 of which are engaged in Science careers and 5 are independent investigators. 34 postdoctoral fellows have trained in our lab. 22 of these trainees went on to become faculty members at Universities or independent group leaders at research institutes. All of these postdoc trainees are engaged in science careers. As Director of Postdoctoral Affairs at the Stowers Institute I am responsible for promoting the training and careers of predoctoral and postdoctoral scientists at this institute.
