David Sulzer, Ph.D. – VARI Seminar Series

June 19 @ 12:00 pm

Multiple interactions between dopamine and alpha-synuclein

Alpha-synuclein plays an important physiological function by inhibiting the exocytosis of synaptic vesicles but is also plays an instrumental role in the cause of Parkinson’s and additional diseases. We will discuss evidence suggesting how intracellular changes in the handling of this protein may initiate this disease and how it may lead to neuronal death including through steps in the acquired immune system.
